§ 385-3. Tree Commission and Tree Officer.

  • A. 
    Tree Commission.
    (1) 
    The primary responsibility of the Tree Commission is to ensure the positive husbandry of trees located on public property within the Village of Sleepy Hollow. The Commission's functions include, but are not limited to:
    (a) 
    Overseeing the taking of an inventory of trees currently located on public property.
    (b) 
    Developing a comprehensive plan for pruning and maintaining trees located on public property.
    (c) 
    Developing a comprehensive plan for replacing and/or adding trees to public property.
    (2) 
    The Tree Commission shall be composed of the following:
    (a) 
    The Department of Public Works General Foreman.
    (b) 
    The Building Inspector.
    (c) 
    Two residents of the Village of Sleepy Hollow.
    (d) 
    Two members of the Environmental Advisory Committee.
    (e) 
    The Tree Officer.
    B. 
    Tree Officer. The Tree Officer shall be a person knowledgeable about trees and training in the proper care and maintenance of trees. Preference for appointment as a Tree Officer shall be given to certified arborists.
    C. 
    Appointment to the Tree Commission. Resident members and members of the Environmental Advisory Committee shall each be appointed for a two-year term by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees.
